Creating & Coordinating Resources for Asian Communities

about ACA

ACA grew from an informal qualitative research process conducted among 200 individuals from 18 Asian countries who reside in the Cincinnati area. This research found that although some 1,800 social service agencies provide programs in this area, Asian populations frequently are not familiar with these programs and do not utilize existing services. So the idea of establishing a social service agency embracing the notion of Asian empowerment was first conceived in 2000 by four women who were committed to serving the Asian population in Greater Cincinnati.

Who is the Asian population?

According to the 2000 US Census data there are over 22750* Asians in the Greater Cincinnati region. The Asian population is a diverse group of individuals who trace their origins to Bhutan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

*Informal estimates show population at over 100,000
